The Mexican Rebozo.

re·bo·zo / rə-ˈbō-sō / noun

A long rectangular fabric — typically 24”×60” to 36”×96” — traditionally worn by Mexican women. It serves every purpose from daily utility to celebration, and stands as a symbol of matriarchy.

This ongoing passion project explores the rebozo in everyday wear through weaving, knitting, and crochet, using cashmere, merino wool, mulberry silk, linen, and cotton.

The practice of making these rebozos connects us deeply to our Mexican heritage. It honors the proud mothers and grandmothers who paved the way for us in the United States and gave us the chance at a better life.

This is dedicated to you,
Doña Maria Santos Del Real.
